Fans watched the Union City HS Hillers and the South Caldwell HS Spartans fight to the finish.

Getting offensive support from Clarence De La Cruz, the Union City HS Hillers topped the South Caldwell HS Spartans, 6-5. De La Cruz went 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Hillers. Union City HS reliever Ken Hernández got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Jody Harris was tagged with the loss. Paul Danagher earned the save, his 4th, for the Hillers.

Union City HS used a clutch hit from Bill Washington to get the win. The pinch hitter drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Hillers ahead, 6-5. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Washington.

The second-place Hillers improved to 12-6.
