Rapids Hope Win Turns Around Slow Start
Rapids Ballpark was the site for Eastern League action featuring the DeSoto Central HS Panthers and James River HS Rapids.

The James River HS Rapids beat the DeSoto Central HS Panthers, 5-1. James River HS pitcher and Lynchburg, Virginia, native Vincente González led the way. González went 5 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 3, and struck out 4. His record improves to 1-0.

The Panthers had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Rapids going into the bottom of the second inning. That changed quickly when the 17-year old center fielder Josh Jenkins came to the plate. Jenkins hit a 2-run double on a 1-1 fastball from DeSoto Central HS hurler Anastasio Torres. It was Jenkins's 3rd double of the year.

"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Jenkins told a James River HS Observer reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
