The DeSoto Central HS Panthers got a magnificent effort from pitcher Justin Smith, who kept Union City HS hitters in check en route to a 3-1 Panthers win at Union City HS & Athletic Complex. The Panthers now have a record of 12-13.

DeSoto Central HS used the timely hitting of Bill Gibson to capture the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Panthers on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but he made it count.

"It's a mindset," said Smith. "Just trying to do your job, trying to be consistent."
