The Hilo Hoops grabbed a win, 6-4, over the Kilauea Volcanoes at Hilo Ballpark. Hilo third baseman Tokimasa Asai went 2 for 2 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The winner was Yong-oon Na in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Jamie Gow took the loss. Earning his 2nd save for Hilo was Juan Moreno.
The game was at a stalemate until pinch hitter Eugen Lang came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Kilauea pitcher Jamie Gow, he hit a 1-2 knuckle curve for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Hilo on top, 6-4.
"I think we all put in a good day's work," said Lang.
The Volcanoes, now 3-9, continue their inauspicious start.
