The DeSoto Central HS Panthers topped the Blanchard HS Ligers, 2-1, in Eastern League action at Ligers Ballpark. The game was highlighted by the performance of DeSoto Central HS pitcher Justin Smith. The Panthers are now 25-20, while the Ligers fall to 15-30.

It could have been a different outcome for DeSoto Central HS, had it not been for Juan Vásquez, the 16-year old left fielder . Vásquez contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the third inning to put DeSoto Central HS up, 2-0.

"Getting ahead of the hitters was the key," said Smith.
