Mario Puente was a major contributor to the 4-2 Instituto Politecnico Nacional win over Ciefuegos. The Mules second baseman was 3 for 5 with a home run and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Tim van den Hombergh, now 2-1, picked up the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 3.1 innings. John Curwen closed the door for Instituto Politecnico Nacional, picking up his 9th save of the year.
Instituto Politecnico Nacional used the timely hitting of Yuan-zhang Cuan to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Mules on top, 4-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"I just tried to put the barrel on it," said Puente.
Instituto Politecnico Nacional has now won 3 in a row.
