Vulcans Snatch Late Win
|
The Mauna Loa Vulcans topped the Maui Mahi-Mahi, 5-4, in Hawaiian League action at Recoil Stadium. The game was highlighted by the performance of Mauna Loa third baseman Jeff Gibbons. The 'W' lifts Mauna Loa's record to 36-32.
A critical at-bat came in the bottom of the eighth inning when the Vulcans sent 22-year-old first baseman Ernesto Núñez to the plate with the bases loaded. The youngster shook off the pressure and drew a walk, driving in 1 run, to put Mauna Loa on top, 4-3.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Gibbons said.
