Mountaineers Take Down Settlers, 3-2
|
The Rockingham HS Settlers got a superb performance from pitcher Michael Tillett. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Canberra HS. The Mountaineers won the game, 3-2. Tillett threw 5.0 innings of 3-hit ball. Zachary Tilton earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. His record is now 4-1. Carlos Howell recorded the save for Canberra HS, his 5th of the season.
Had Tetsu Takagawa not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Takagawa hit a 2-run double. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Mountaineers.
Takagawa attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
Their 16-30 record puts the Mountaineers last in the Pacific Conference Oceanic Division.
