Halberds Rally For Late Win Over Pineapples
|
The Shirakawa Halberds picked up a win at Dole Park, knocking off the Lana'i City Pineapples, 3-1. Starting pitcher Zelalem Wamugunda was an essential part of his team's success. Shirakawa reliever Ryu Suzuki picked up the win to move to 3-2. Pung-cho Yu suffered the loss. The win makes Shirakawa 23-59, nothing to write home about.
Shirakawa used the clutch hitting of Blair Vessy to capture the win. The shortstop drilled a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to give the Halberds the lead, 1-0. For the game, Vessy had 1 single and 1 double in 4 at-bats.
"You score one run, you're not going to win," said Lana'i City skipper Butch Corrigan. "You can have three Koufaxes and three Drysdales, you're still not going to win."
