Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Hoops
Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the Hilo Hoops and the Kobayashi Fireflies. Hilo won it, 3-1. Hilo starter Noah Surtees was in command. Jo Nii sewed up the save, his 6th. The 4th-place Hoops improved to 47-45.

Had Miguel Vargas not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Vargas hit a 2-run single. That made the score 3-1, in favor of the Hoops.

"We all want to win," said Vargas. "We all want to do our part."
