Lords Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Broncos, 3-0
|
The Castle HS Lords got a magnificent performance from pitcher Lee Meyer, who muffled the Brophy Prep offense en route to a tight 3-0 Lords win at Broncos Ballpark. Alonso Vargas, now 1-1, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. Michael Nelson, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 3rd save.
Castle HS used a timely hit from Carlos González to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Lords ahead, 2-0. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.
González said the win provided a "big morale boost" for the team. "There's a good feeling in the clubhouse right now."
The loss makes Brophy Prep 16-15.
