Torchbearers Slip Past Oswego HS, 4-3
|
Starting pitcher Mitch Jones pitched well enough to help the Sprague HS Torchbearers beat the Oswego HS Lynx, 4-3. Sprague HS reliever Elvis Drake picked up the win to move to 1-0. Jerry Ortíz suffered the loss. At 17-21, the Torchbearers find themselves in 5th place in the Western League Northwest Conference.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Sprague HS left fielder Alex James, facing Jerry Ortíz, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Torchbearers the 4-3 win.
"Winning in the last at-bat, there's nothing else like it," said James.
