Baker Lifts Matadors to 3-1 Win
|
The Boone HS Matadors and Lakewood HS Lancers played a tight game with the hosts claiming a hard-fought win.
The bats were silent much of the day at Boone Ballpark. But Tommy Baker conjured up just enough offense to carry the Matadors past the Lakewood HS Lancers, 3-1. Baker was 3 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Willie Savage, the winning pitcher, is now 2-3. He went 6.2 innings, allowing no runs on 2 hits, while fanning 3 and walking 1.
The game turned with no one out in the bottom of the fourth when Baker hit a run-scoring double. It propelled the Matadors into the lead, 1-0.
"I really like what we did out there today," Baker said after the game.
Boone HS bumps their record to 16-21 with the win.
