Reds Take Down Surge, 8-1
|
The Mankato West HS Reds topped the Bellevue West HS Surge, 8-1, in Western League action at Mankato Park. The standout performance belonged to Mankato West HS pitcher and Burnsville, Minnesota, native Larry Neal. Neal, now 3-4, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 0, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Getting the save was José Sánchez, his 1st.
Kendrick Poole dealt the Surge a blow in the bottom of the fifth. Batting with the bases loaded and Mankato West HS leading 2-1, Poole hit a 0-1 fastball for a run-scoring single.
"You score one run, you're not going to win," said Bellevue West HS skipper Greg Rosenblatt. "You can have three Koufaxes and three Drysdales, you're still not going to win."
Mankato West HS is now 19-21, Bellevue West HS 19-21.
