When he got to Sarasota HS, Duane Erickson was just worrying about staying on the roster. Today, he was starring in the Round 1.

In a remarkable performance at Ballpark of Barbe HS today, the 16-year-old rookie right-hander led the Sailors to a 1-0 shut out of the host Barbe HS Buccaneers. With the win, Sarasota HS took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-7 Round 1.

Sarasota HS used a timely hit from Santiago Ybarra to get the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put the Sailors ahead, 1-0. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"We haven't stopped playing," Barbe HS manager Kevin Moore said. "We didn't get this far to give up."

Game 3 is scheduled for Sunday at Sailors Ballpark in Sarasota.
