Curtin University Win to Pull Even With Hosei University
|
The Curtin University Cockatoos and the Hosei University Avocat will take the Round 2 to a decisive 7th game. Facing a must-win situation today, the Cockatoos shut out the Avocat 3-0 at Federals Ballpark to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. In spite of the loss, Hosei University right-hander Brad Dickson had a strong outing in which he threw 6.1 innings allowing 2 runs.
Freddie Verney dealt the Avocat a blow in the top of the fourth. Batting with the bases empty and Curtin University leading 1-0, Verney, who is the 5th-best prospect in the Cockatoos organization, hit a 2-2 cutter for a solo home run.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Curtin University manager Naozane Watanabe.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Federals Ballpark in Tokyo.
