Port Lincoln HS Trawlers manager Marcos Sotelo knew it was a gamble to give the start to a rookie. It was a good gamble to take.

Pitching in front of a hostile crowd, 14-year-old left-hander Cam Donovan silenced the host Dunedin HS Scots at Dunedin Ballpark today. The Trawlers shut out the Scots by a final score of 6-0, to give the Trawlers a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-7 Round 2.

Port Lincoln HS used the bat of Edward Thornton to get the win. The center fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Trawlers ahead, 2-0. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it did its damage.

Scots manager Nathan O'Reilly did not take questions after the game, telling assembled reporters that he would hold a press conference "if and when we win the Round 4."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Dunedin Ballpark in Dunedin.
