Ewa Beach Imperialists manager Jonathan Cook knew it was a gamble to give the start to rookie Iván Enríquez. It was a good gamble to take.

Pitching in front of a supportive hometown crowd, the 23-year-old left-hander silenced the visiting Waimalu Nene at Rison Grounds today. The Imperialists shut out the Nene by a final score of 4-0, to give the Imperialists a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-7 Championship.

Enríquez, a native of Honolulu, Hawaii, was dealing all game. He kept Waimalu hitters off-balance, while giving the Imperialists 7 quality innings. Enríquez threw 102 pitches, allowing 3 hits and striking out 3.

"I'm already starting to think about what I might spend my Surf and Snow Cup bonus on," Enríquez said with a smile.

Game 3 is scheduled for Tuesday at Waimalu Grounds in Waimalu.
