Longoria 5-for-6 for Bears Saturday, April 9th , 2039 The Winter Springs HS Bears stopped the Katy HS Tigers by a score of 3-1 at Field of the Bears today, with the lion's share of the credit going to catcher Juan Longoria. The 17-year-old had a career day, collecting 5 hits. "Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate," Longoria said later. "He wants to hit the ball hard." Longoria did just that in his 6 at-bats, much to the chagrin of the Tigers. "Not much that I can say," offered Katy HS manager Miguel Márquez. "He just hammered the heck out of us." Juan Longoria singled in the 1st, struck out in the 3rd, tripled in the 5th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 10th and hit a three-run home run off Jim MacElligot in the 12th. This year Longoria has collected a .283 batting average to date with 34 hits in 120 at-bats, 11 RBIs, 4 home runs and scored 10 times. He has played in 33 games. View Boxscore |
