Verhaar Rips 3 Homers Against Traders
Wednesday, July 13th , 2039
Bennie Verhaar brutalized the Kenai Traders pitching staff, launching three home runs in today's 12-1 victory at Metros Ballpark. The Wasilla Sledge Dogs second baseman was red-hot, the ball just exploding off his bat all day.
"I don't try to hit homers," he said later. "I try to go out there and put a good swing on the ball, and sometimes it is going to go out of the park. I didn't try to hit the first one or the second one or the third one."
For the game, he went 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs and 4 runs scored.
"Too much Bennie Verhaar today," Traders manager Tony Thompson said. "That's my assessment of the game. That's what our problems boiled down to."
Bennie Verhaar hit a solo-shot off Elton Kitchens in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Elton Kitchens in the 3rd, grounded out in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Kent Davis in the 7th and was hit by a pitch in the 8th.
This season Verhaar is batting .232 with 22 RBIs, 30 runs scored and 7 home runs.
