Rutledge Powers 3 HR Against Lana'i City Wednesday, August 3rd , 2039 Kailua Hanso first baseman Rob Rutledge put on a dazzling display of power today at Blue Birds Ballpark against the Lana'i City Pineapples. In the 13-0 Hanso victory Rutledge penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts. "He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Lana'i City manager Butch Corrigan said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well." Along with his three home runs, the 21-year-old had 4 hits in 4 at-bats, 6 RBIs and 4 runs scored. "Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Rutledge said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today." Rob Rutledge hit a solo-shot off Bradley Awdry in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, was hit by a pitch in the 4th, hit a three-run home run off Millard Banks in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off Kelly Callahan in the 8th. Rutledge is hitting .380 for the season with 13 home runs, 31 RBIs and 21 runs scored. He has 30 hits in 79 at-bats and played in 22 games. |
