Sakurai Booms 3 Homers Friday, April 6th , 2040 The old superstition that "bad news comes in threes" certainly came true for the Canberra HS Mountaineers today. Kochi HS left fielder Shigekazu Sakurai tripled up on the home runs to propel the Shogun to the 15-2 win at Ballpark of Canberra. "We had our chances to win the game, but we just didn't come through," Canberra HS manager Curtis Ash said. "Sakurai hit the heck out of the ball." In addition to the homers, Sakurai collected 3 hits in 4 at-bats, 5 RBIs and scored 4 runs. "Easy swings get you home runs," he said after the game. "I kept telling myself not to press. They have to be nice and easy swings." Shigekazu Sakurai hit a solo-shot off Melis van der Mijl in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Melis van der Mijl in the 3rd, flied out in the 4th, walked in the 6th, walked in the 7th and hit a three-run home run off Phillip Tibbits in the 9th. To date, Sakurai has collected 34 hits for a .301 average. He has posted 7 home runs, scored 19 runs and driven in 16 runs. |
